Judge to rule on Act 1 constitutionality

BATON ROUGE — A district court judge will rule, for the second time, Jan. 8 on whether a Jindal administration wide-ranging education revamp bill passed in 2012 is constitutional.

Judge Michael Caldwell previously ruled that Act 1 is unconstitutional because too many objects were crammed into one bill. The state appealed and the Louisiana Supreme Court sent the Act 1 case back to Caldwell for review under new standards the court set for judging the multiple object provision in the constitution.
